A New Dawn

In the aftermath of the failed coup, the capital begins to heal. Prince Kang is sentenced to permanent exile. Qi Min is imprisoned but his life is spared — a compromise that reflects the Emperor's own guilt in the Jinzhou affair. The Emperor, chastened by his near-death experience and the exposure of his complicity, announces a series of reforms: military supply oversight, anti-corruption courts, and formal trade agreements with the Tuoba confederation.

Xie Zheng is offered the position of Grand Marshal, the highest military rank in the empire. He accepts on one condition: that a memorial be built at Jinzhou for the ten thousand soldiers who died. The Emperor agrees. At the memorial dedication, Xie Zheng reads the names of every fallen soldier — a ceremony that takes from dawn to dusk. Changyu stands beside him through every hour.

Qianqian, having fulfilled her purpose, prepares to leave. She has changed the ending of the story — Changyu lives, Xie Zheng is whole, and justice has been served. She doesn't know if she can return to her own time, but she is at peace. She and Changyu share a tearful goodbye, and Qianqian walks into the morning mist, her fate left intentionally ambiguous.
