Synopsis
EP15 Recap
Xie Zheng and Changyu present their initial findings about the Jinzhou embezzlement to Minister Shen Huai, who agrees to quietly investigate through official channels. However, word leaks — and within days, Shen Huai's office is raided by the Imperial Guard under orders from Qi Min's faction. Critical evidence is confiscated and several of Shen's subordinates are arrested on fabricated charges.
Shen Huai himself narrowly escapes arrest, taking refuge in Xie Zheng's estate. The move puts a target on the Marquis's household. The Emperor, whose loyalties remain ambiguous, summons Xie Zheng and warns him not to "disturb the peace of the realm" — a veiled order to stop investigating Jinzhou. Xie Zheng is trapped between his duty to obey the Emperor and his obligation to the ten thousand dead.
Changyu, watching her husband torn apart by this impossible choice, makes a promise: she will find another way. If the front door to truth is locked, she will go through the back. She begins planning a secret investigation using the merchant networks her father's trade connections provide.
